The Upanishads are a collection of texts. In each of these texts different metaphors and language are used to help express the concept of an inner self. Often the inner self is described as light within the heart space.
Using a mala (string of beads) is a very effective tool to improve concentration. It has been tried and tested by many different cultures throughout history.
The Vigyana Bhairava Tantra was written around 1000 years ago but the teachings are as useful now as ever. The text provides 112 simple mindfulness / meditation practices which we can use in our Yoga practice and in every day life.
Mudras are a combination of subtle physical movements which alter mood, attitude and perception and which deepen awareness and concentration.
