Tools & Techniques for Meditation – Hebden Bridge
with Chris Noon
Saturday 28th April, 10.00 – 4.00pm, £35.00
This workshop will examine preparations we can make in order to get the most benefit from meditation practice.
We will take a quick look at a range of sitting postures used for meditation – different people need different positions and finding the right sitting posture for yourself makes a huge difference to the quality of your practice.
There will be a sequence of postures designed to develop the strength & flexibility necessary for sitting still in meditation.
There will also be Asana (posture work) and Pranayama (breathing techniques) which help create the optimum environment for meditation.
We will explore the stages which lead up to meditation according to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. These include Pratyahara, withdrawing from the physical body and the senses. Pratyahara is a necessary stage in turning the awareness inwards and in steadying the mind.
There will be concentration techniques (Dharana) which you can learn and practice in your own time. These techniques prepare the ground for meditation, but can also lead to a state of meditation.
The main meditation practice will be Kaya Sthairyam, a wonderful and practical technique which leads into a profound stillness where meditation can arise.
