The Koshas : Exploring the Nature of our Embodied Self
‘Who am I?’ is the timeless enquiry of yoga and mysticism.
The paradigm of the Pancha Kosha, or the five levels or bodies, offers an elegant, practical and profound insight into our embodied nature, and that which lies beyond.
The concept of the Koshas underpins the entire practice of Yoga and indeed makes sense of it. It explains how Yoga works.
According to this theory we exist in the world on five levels :
- The physical body (Annamaya Kosha), through which we act in the world
- The breathing body (Pranamaya Kosha) that gifts us with our energy and vitality
- The mental body (Manomaya Kosha) that makes conceptual sense of our world;
- The intuitive or insightful body (Vigyanamaya Kosha) that catalyses a deeper clarity or illumination
- The blissful body (Anandamaya Kosha), the joy that just is, without any causation.
Yet the paradigm does not stop there, it points beyond into our most essential nature.
In this day seminar we will illuminate, explore and experience these five levels of who we are.
The yogic tools of asana, pranayama, meditation and yoga nidra will be used to bring energy and a more refined spacious awareness to the first three levels, thereby allowing an opening up of the two more subtle ones to our experience.
The day will be an opportunity to deepen your self-understanding through the ageless, yet ever new, paradigm of the Pancha Kosha.
