Pop Up Art & Yoga Gallery

Saturday 3rd December
10 – 5.30pm
Sheffield Yoga School, South Rd, Walkley S6

Something a little bit different is happening in our Yoga Centre on 3rd December – we are creating a pop up Art & Yoga gallery!

The gallery will feature art work, cards, pottery, calendars and other beautiful creations from four local artists. All four artists are either Yoga teachers or practitioners and the link between art and yoga is the theme running through the gallery.

It’s also just in time for Christmas and offers an opportunity to buy some unique (and very reasonably priced!) gifts for friends and family.

Artists & Creators

Amarajyoti

Painting for me is a meditative experience, where I connect with the process of applying, removing and exploring colour, form and texture on a flat surface. It is wordless and physical, and each piece evolves from this process of discovery.

Imagery / ideas come from my daily seated meditation practice as ethereal concepts, seeds of possibilities, which then are made whole by the act of painting itself.

Each painting is a journey to bring into being that which is unknown into a solid physical experience. It is also a method of self-discovery on a deeper level, to go beyond who I think I am.

Colour is of prime importance in my painting. I work in Acrylics with added materials which may include gold leaf or jewels (imitation). I paint on canvas, board and paper and work on several paintings at once: usually one larger canvas and 2 or 3 small paintings on paper. My work has become more abstract since lockdown.

Penny Withers

Penny is a Sheffield based ceramic artist with a studio at Yorkshire Artspace.

“I make pottery which is not directly representative of yoga iconography but is influenced by yoga as part of my life.”

Penny will bring a selection of her work, including mugs, bowls and landscape vases which either represent images or textures of the landscapes.

When one has put in the time to study and practice with a material, pushed it to its limits and been pushed back by it; the interaction is equal, intention becomes intuition. There is no need to use verbal interpretation. The pot is how it is, refreshingly simple.
