Cultivating Practice : Meditation Course

A quartz crystal mala on a snowy day, ice on the mala beads

5 week online course with Chris Noon
Thursdays 7.30 – 8.30am

Starts 26th February

This course is slightly different to previous courses. The format is the same, there’ll be a range of meditation practices plus other elements of Hatha Yoga. But the focus is on cultivating regular practice, something you do every day.

When practice is regular, consistent and on-going it becomes fundamental to our lives that is when things change.

“When you sit every day, and sitting every day becomes your practice, you sit whether you want to sit, or don’t want to sit. You sit whether you like sitting or you don’t like sitting. This regular sitting weakens the hold the likes and dislikes in your mind have on you. Practising in this way transforms your ‘likes and dislikes’ mind into a practice mind; it becomes one mind instead of being a divided mind.”
Swami Gyan Dharma : Centred in the Now p182

Elements of the course

The main meditation practice in this course is Ajapa Dharana, as taught in the Bihar School of Yoga. There are many different elements and levels to this practice and we will work progressively through some of them. Ajapa Dharana is often recommended as being best suited to daily, long term meditation practice.

The course includes other meditation practices, as well as breathing / pranayama that prepare the space for Ajapa Dharana.

There will be some movement / asana during the sessions just to help prepare body and mind for meditation.

A young sapling held in hands symbolizes growth and sustainability.

For your own practice we recommend using a mala. A mala is a string of 108 beads all separated by a small knot. I will say a bit more about this during the course; a mala is not necessary for the course but it is very useful for long term, regular practice.

Beginners Welcome

This course is more for people with some experience of meditation practice. However, if you are new to Yoga and / or meditation you are welcome to take part.

You will need to be able to sit comfortably and we would recommend using a chair if that is the most comfortable option for you.

If you are new to meditation please contact us before booking a place.

Recordings

All the sessions from this course are recorded and you will receive a link to the recording after each session. The recordings will be available to download for up to one month after the final session of the course.

The recordings mean that you can do the practices again during and after the course, practicing and learning the techniques and making them your own.

If you miss a session you can use the recording to catch up later on.
