A Journey into Stillness

7 week Meditation Course
with Chris Noon

“In an age of distraction, nothing can feel more luxurious than paying attention and in an age of constant movement, nothing is more urgent than sitting still”
Pico Iyer

Opportunities for stillness can be few and far between, but they are so important. It is in times of stillness and quietness that we return to the peace that is within us but also these are times when we remember what is really important in life.

This course will explore various aspects of stillness – in the body, in the space between the breaths and in the mind.

We will use elements of the following practices :

  • Kaya Sthairyam – Body Stillness

This practice involves bringing the body to a state of complete stillness, being fully conscious of that stillness and experiencing it intensely.
Kaya Sthairyam is a simple but profound practice which highlights the ‘oneness’ of body, breath and mind that is key to our Yoga practice.

  • Kevala Kumbhaka : Stillness between the breaths

The space and stillness between breaths is a wonderful place to be! It is not somewhere we can force our way into, to get there we have to let go the effort completely.

  • Antar Mouna : Inner Silence

When the mind is silent and still what’s left? This question goes to the heart of meditation and of our experience as human beings.

“Out of Stillness, on all levels comes insight
And out of insight comes Wisdom
In stillness we can identify with Awareness the ground of our existence”.
(Swami Nischalanananda)

There is no real ‘separateness’ between the practices we will use in this course, ultimately they are all the same. All the practices are designed to lead to an experience of stillness … and to what we find in stillness!

This course will include some asana (movement / postures), some pranayama (breathing practices) and relaxation, but the focus is on meditation.

All the sessions from this course are recorded and you will receive a copy of the recording after each one.

This means that you can do the practices again at any time after the course, or if you miss a session you can catch up later on.

Online Meditation

The sessions will be held online via Zoom.

Zoom is very straight forward to use and is a particularly good medium for meditation practice; all you really need is to be able to hear the verbal instructions – you won’t be peering at the screen during the classes!

Everyone attending is ‘muted’ during the classes and you don’t need to be seen on screen by anyone else.

We will send out more information about using Zoom before the course starts.
