Harp, Soundscapes and Yoga

An evening of gentle Yoga & Relaxation with live Celtic Harp

  • Monday 22nd December, 7 – 9pm
  • Chris Noon (Yoga) & Ciara Noon (Harp)

In this session we’ll make and hold a space for Yoga, breathing and deep relaxation accompanied by the magical sound of the Clarsach (Celtic harp).

What the session involves

There will be live harp music from Ciara when you arrive. The harp is one of the oldest musical instruments; it’s unique soundscape has been uplifting and entrancing people for over 5000 years. We’ll use music from the harp throughout this session.

Movement & posture work

The posture work will be gentle and accessible, with an emphasis on conscious movement, effortless flow and a loosening of tension from body and mind.

Breathing

We’ll use some simple Yoga breathing practices, from one to another, moving gradually and steadily to create a balance of lightness, energy and calm.

You’ll work with your own breath, there will be no force and no struggle. These are techniques that anyone can use; once you have learned them you have them for life.

No experience necessary

Relaxation

Chris will lead you into a deep relaxation practice called Yoga Nidra (literally ‘Yoga sleep’).

Usually in Yoga Nidra we go gradually deeper into a state of relaxation and then there is a guided visualisation. In this evenings session the visualisation will be include live sound-scapes from the harp.

Sound has always been important in Yoga, the vibration of sound leads us into an awareness of space and spaciousness. It will be similar this evening – except that we have the uniquely beautiful and entrancing sound of the harp to guide us. You can be still, let the sounds wash over you and see where the melodies and vibrations take you!

When & Where

The session will be held in our Yoga Centre on South Road, in Walkley. It’s a lovely room with good acoustics, perfect for working with sound and vibration.

Doors will be open from 6.30pm. Please arrive before 6.50pm so that we can be settled and ready to start promptly at 7.00pm.

Cost & Booking

The fee for the Celtic Harp bath & Relaxation is £20.00.
If you can’t afford the full fee contact us and we will reduce it.

Please note : This event is for over 16s only

The Harpist & The Yoga Teacher

Ciara Noon (Harp)

Ciara Noon plays celtic harp to accompany Yoga & Relaxation

Ciara began playing the harp at 7 years old. She learned to play in the traditional way by ear. Harpists who learn in this way are encouraged to be creative and spontaneous with the music and to add imporvisation to the meoldies.

Music played in this way is more ‘heart’ than ‘head’ and has a free flowing organic quality.

The harp is a very special instrument; it has been played for thousands of years and when you hear it the timeless quality is clear. The harp doesn’t even need human touch- if left outside the breeze flowing through the strings makes music!

Chris Noon (Yoga)

Chris is a director and founder of Sheffield Yoga School, he has been teaching Yoga, relaxation and meditation in Sheffield for 25 years.

What to Bring

The room is warm and cosy (we now have central heating!) but please make sure you will be warm enough for the relaxation.

Mats will be laid out in the room but if you do feel the cold you could bring a thick blanket or an extra padded mat to lie down on.

We have thin blankets at the centre but you can bring an extra blanket, or even a duvet or a sleeping bag, if you like.

Relaxation is at the heart of this evening so please make sure you’ll be warm and can enjoy it.
