Living Yoga – Finding Balance

Grenoside Community Hall, Sheffield, S35 8PR

In yoga we are encouraged to cultivate the quality of the witness or drashta. When we first attend a class, this may be the simple observation of physical sensations or the rhythm of our breathing. In time, we are encouraged to delve a little deeper, observing the ebb and flow of our thoughts, noticing our actions and reactions.
Central to this workshop will be the fact that Yoga is a science of living, providing us with a system of practices which encourage us to recognise our conditioning and patterns of thinking and doing.
We will explore a range of techniques, as well as an approach to our practice on that mat, which help to cultivate the positive qualities of our personality and reconnect with the peace which is at our centre.
Taking yoga off our mat and in to daily lives, we begin to listen with a deeper level of awareness. In one of his poems Rumi, describes this as ‘deep listening’. As we listen, we learn about ourselves. It is this learning which allows us to let go of habitual patterns of thinking and doing, to trust our judgement and to live a more balanced life.
A practical day, taught in the Satyananda Yoga tradition, we will explore a range of practices from the yogic tradition.
Along with the practice of asana, pranayama and yoga nidra, the day will also include mudra, mantra and the beautiful practices of Anu Loma Viloma and Prana Shuddhi. There will be some time for discussion and personal reflection.
Suitable for new and experienced students alike.
