5 Week Online Meditation Course
with Chris Noon
Starts Thursday 24rd February, 7.30 – 8.30am
£28 / £23
Yogah chitta vritti nirodha.
Tadha drashta swaroope awasthanamYoga is the quietening of the mind to silence
Then the Seer realizes his true natureYoga Sutras of Patanjali I v 2 – 3
These two verses describe the purpose of Yoga – to quieten the mind and then to see what lies behind the ups and downs of mood, reactions, conditioned thought processes, personality, habits etc.
Central to this process is drashta, also called the ‘seer’, or the ‘witness perspective’. In Yoga & Meditation we develop this quality of drashta, learning to observe the experiences of the body first of all, then the breathing and then our thoughts, feelings, reactions etc
Drashta and the quietening of the mind are the focus of this course.
What do the sessions include?
Asana / Postures
The movement and posture work will be straight forward. There will be a focus on breath awareness and bringing movement and breathing into harmony. When movement and breathing come effortlessly together there is concentration, relaxation and a natural quietening of the mind.
Breathing / Pranayama
We will use Hatha Yoga breathing techniques including Bhramari (the ‘humming bee breath’) and Ujjayi (the ‘whispering breath’).
These practices are easy to learn and very useful in their own right. Bhramari produces profound relaxation in body & mind; it is a very useful tool to help manage stress and anxiety.
Ujjayi also promotes relaxation, but has the added ingredient of creating a more sensitive, introverted (quiet!) state of mind. It is often used in meditation.
Relaxation
Relaxation is the first stage of quietening the mind and is part of the experience of any Yoga practice we do. It will certainly be part of this course!
Meditation
The principles at the heart of this course apply to any meditation. We concentrate the mind in order to quieten the mind and as the mind quietens Drashta develops. Through this ‘witnessing’, this awareness, we begin to realise that there is more to our existence than what we think!
The techniques we’ll use in this course include Returning (a version of ‘Antar Mouna / Inner Silence’) and Vishuddhi Shuddhi (a version of ‘Ajapa Japa’).
You don’t need to have had any experince of these techniques for this course.
Recordings
All the sessions from this course are recorded and you will receive a copy of the recording after each one.
This means that you can do the practices again at any time after the course, or if you miss a session you can catch up later on.

Chris has been teaching Yoga and Meditation for 20 years. He qualified initially with the British Wheel of Yoga and then with the Bihar School of Yoga.
Online Meditation
The sessions will be held online via Zoom.
Zoom is very straight forward to use and the online platform is a particularly good medium for meditation practice; all you need is to be able to hear the verbal instructions – you won’t be peering at the screen during the classes!
Everyone attending is ‘muted’ during the classes and you don’t need to be seen on screen by anyone else.
