Delightful Mudras!

One definition of Mudra is “that which draws forth delight”. This day is an opportunity to ‘draw forth delight’ with a delicious deep dive into a medley of mudra!
A whole day of Yoga is an opportunity to give yourself a mini retreat with time and space for deeper inner exploration. “ If you don’t go within, you go without”.
About the workshop
Using Mudra with Asana
This day will begin with a sequence of Hasta (hand) mudras that can be used with Asana (Yoga movement & postures).
The sequence moves systematically from the Earth / root Chakra to the Crown, involving Asana and mudra for each energy centre along the way.
The Chakra system is an interesting model to help understand the complexity of our human form. Rather than thinking of just the body and the mind, the Chakra model brings in our senses, elements, nervous system, hormonal system, feelings and our energy.
The overall effect of this combination of Asana and Mudra is a feeling of greater harmony and ease. Hence the title of this workshop ‘Delightful mudras’ : Mudra is the tool “to draw forth delight” .
Going Deeper

As always Asana prepares the ground for the deeper and more advanced practices.
Hannah will guide you through a sequence of Mudras known as “The Ladder”, the aim of which is to systematically bring awareness and Prana (vital energy) to each Chakra area.
The mudras used are combination of Sirsha (head) mudras using the face and eyes, Perineal mudras using Mudra and Bandha and Kaya (Body / Postural) mudras.
These are deeply internalizing mudras that need time and space to experience away from the business of daily life.
“An ‘Attitude’ in Sanskrit called a ‘Mudra’ is an exercise which produces a deep inward effect. It influences the underlying form or state of energy in and around the body. An apparently slight physical influence unlocks the subtle energy centres and makes them flow harmoniously. This relaxes different areas of the body. Thus the attitudes influence the nervous system, and the chakras, energising or awakening corresponding centres in the brain.”

Learn Shiva Nata – The ‘Dance of Shiva’

In the afternoon we will learn a mudra like flowing practice called “Shiva Nata” The Dance of Shiva. It’s not a dance as such but movement using circles and spirals mainly of the arms to connect with the energy of the Universe on micro and macro levels.
Our DNA is a spiral and we are in a Spiral galaxy. Making the body move in spiral forms sensing the space within and around us again can give us a deeper feeling of oneness/wholeness.
On another level the Dance of Shiva its also a great challenge for co ordination and concentration so will definitely be followed by a Yoga Nidra!
