Using anatomical knowledge to understand aches and pains in the yoga class

with Lesley Dike

Saturday 25th April, 10 – 4.30pm, Sheffield Yoga School, S6 3TA, £55

A day of problem solving musculoskeletal problems encountered in the yoga class. Using real case studies from physio practice, we will unpick their signs and symptoms and come up with creative solutions, using movement strategies and yoga.

What we’ll cover

This day workshop will cover a wide range of musculoskeletal problems. Here are some examples :

  • Why would a yoga student always leave her class with more low back pain than she arrived with? We will look at the asanas performed in the class and suggest adaptations that will relieve the back pain.
  • An advanced student complains of a pain in his biceps. He had fallen in the snow three months previously but wasn’t aware that he had hurt himself. What might be going on here?
  • A very keen yoga student and runner reported injuring his right calf, whilst out running. Despite resting and building up his running again, he couldn’t shift the pain. In yoga, he had pain in both the Downward dog and the Plough. Can you unpick what was going on?

The day will be highly practical and provide you with the theory and practical ideas to recognise and deal with some of our students’ aches and pains.
