Exploring the Mantra OM

with Swami Krishnapremananda

13th & 14th December 2025
Sheffield Yoga School, South Rd, Walkley, S6 3TA
£140 / £110

The Mantra OM is the primordial mantra in the yoga / spiritual tradition. It is an expression of the unmanifest, expressing into this manifest world, whether chanted out loud or internally.

OM is the root of most other mantras in the yoga tradition and takes form also in the Word of the Bible (John 1:1), or the Logos in the Greek tradition. OM symbolises the ineffable taking form in this transient world, then returning back into the ineffable, as does each breath, each thought and each life form.

About the course

Although a succinct theoretical understanding will be given, the primary emphasis during this weekend seminar will be practice. We will be exploring a range of practices over the two days that incorporate the mantra Om.

These will include:

  • Different forms of Om chanting out loud, in a focused and in a freestyle way with the breath
  • Chanting Om internally as a focus for silent sitting, or meditation. This will include a focus on the chakras, mainly Agya and Anahat, or the 3rd eye and heart centres.
  • Walking meditation with Om
  • Selected mudra practices including Yoga Mudra using Om
  • Likhit japa, or a writing meditation using Om
  • Yoga Nidra practices with Om

The practices will be interspersed with asana or posture practice and simple relaxation practices.

Through these practices we will explore how our internal patterns of energy – body, mind, emotions – can harmonise with the potency of Om.

A deeper calmness and focus within will arise, which in turn allows the possibility of recognising that these patterns, which make up our individuality, are themselves transient expressions of That which the mantra Om represents.
