About Satyananda Yoga

The word Yoga can be translated as ‘one-ness’.
Through the practice of Yoga we learn to be ‘at one’ with ourselves.

The style of Yoga we teach is called Satyananda Yoga; this is a Classical Yoga system which incorporates a wide range of practices from ancient and traditional sources and makes them relevant for modern living.

Classes include asana (posture work), pranayama (breathing techniques), Yoga Nidra (Deep Relaxation) and Meditation in order to bring a state of balance to the body and mind.

 

Too often nowadays Yoga is taught as an exercise routine; an over emphasis on posture work has developed and the real power and possibilities of Yoga have been diluted.

The ‘classical’ approach incorporates the whole person. It teaches us to live with awareness, to be present, so that we can fully engage with life and fulfill our potential.

The beauty of this system of Yoga is that it retains a vast wealth and depth of Yoga practices; there really is something for everyone regardless of any physical or mental limitations.
