Sheffield Yoga Days - Archive

Sheffield Yoga Days began in 2002 and since that time have gone from strength to strength, bringing some of the top Yoga teachers in the UK to Sheffield to share their knowledge and inspiration.

Here are some of the successful Yoga Days we have run in the past.

2008

19th January Rebecca Allen ‘Calm and Create’ : Yoga techniques to calm your world & release your creative potential.

‘Yoga techniques to calm your world and release your creative potential.’

During this day you will learn to :

• Use rational thinking processes supported by simple techniques to deal with the worries and fears which inhibit your progress through life.
• Find out what you really want out of life and then set about methodically making it happen.
• Improve your self-image and confidence.

The day will include yoga asana (posture work), meditation & relaxation techniques, as well as an examination of continuous daily attitudes and thought processes. There will be some private note making of your own responses and ideas resulting from the practices. This day is designed to initiate immediate, positive changes in your day to day life and beyond.

You will need to bring a notebook, which you will use during the day and afterwards, a pen, a yoga mat, warm blanket and cushion / blocks / meditation stool. There will be an opportunity to buy CD's to help you practice some of the techniques at home, but these are not essential.

The techniques are practical and can easily be applied in daily life.

23rd February Jean Lavers Yoga for Healing

Jean Lavers is a very experienced B.W.Y. teacher and DCT (Yoga Teacher Trainer). She has taught children of all ages, many with special educational needs. She spent 11 years teaching prisoners in a top security prison, and has for many years taught mixed groups in ‘normal’ Yoga classes.

This wealth of experience has taught her how powerful Yoga is in helping oneself. Jean has specialized in Yoga as therapy, learning from many great teachers, including Dr Frank Chandra, Dr Bhole and Dr Dongoankar. However, the teachers who changed her life and teaching methods are Mohanjee and Subodreya from Vivekananda Kendra in Bangalore. Their lives are dedicated to the science of Yoga and they truly live it.

This seminar will look at the different ways in which Yoga practices are healing and will give opportunities for discussion on specific practices for specific ailments.

29th March Swami Satyaprakash Movement and Stillness

We live in a society that prizes action, activity and expression. From our earliest schooldays, we learnt the importance of working hard and achieving good results. But many of us are less familiar with (and consequently less comfortable with) our inner world. The ability to be still, to connect with that quiet still centre within, may sometimes elude us. We may still find it difficult to strike a balance between the outer life and the inner.

During this day, we will explore the relationship between movement and stillness. We will be using the yoga practices that you are familiar with - asana, pranayama and yoga nidra - but also taking the time to learn some of the more meditative techniques and seeing how these may be applied in our daily life.

The program will be suitable for all practitioners of yoga who wish to explore this dimension more deeply.
