Sheffield Yoga School
About the Classes
What the classes involve
At Sheffield Yoga School we teach a wide range of Yoga practices.
The main elements of our teaching are:
- Asana / Posture work to develop the strength and flexibility of the body.
- Basic breathing techniques to ensure that you are breathing correctly. Proper breathing is essential for Yoga practice, but also for mental and physical health and well being.
- Pranayama : this involves the use of breathing to influence the flow and the quality of energy in the body. Pranayama has a calming and balancing effect on the emotions.
- Meditation / Concentration techniques which develop clarity of thought, mental strength and peace of mind.
- Relaxation including Yoga Nidra.
The Beginner Course
The beginner course will enable you to learn and feel confident with a wide range of core Yoga techniques.
You will learn progressively and at your own pace.
We have a range of handouts, including guided home practice programmes, which enable you to develop your understanding and experience of what you learn in class.
We hope that you will establish a habit of regular (and if possible daily) Yoga practice at home.
Even if you have previous experience of Yoga it may be advisable to spend some time in a beginner class.
This is to ensure that you are comfortable with all the basic practices as taught in this tradition of Yoga.
What to bring:
- A non-slip Yoga mat. If necessary we can provide a mat for the first few sessions.
- A blanket, or something to ensure you will be warm enough for relaxation.
